Philip Guterman was born abt. 1852 and died about one day after President Franklin Roosevelt died ( April 5, 1945). He had 2 children from his first marriage and 8 children from his second marriage. He had about 23 grandchildren. The totals for his great grandchildren have not yet been calculated.

This Guterman family is known among other things for the great success that Sam and Julius (sons of Philip) had in real estate in the 1950s. Sam and Julius came to the U.S. from Russia in abt. 1911 and 1913, respectively. Grandson Gerald "Jerry" Guterman (grandson of Philip's son Sol), however, became a real estate mogul in the 1980s. At this stage of the genealogy, it is clear that Gutermans include medical doctors, mental health professionals, attorneys, and real estate developers.

The far reaching influence of the Gutermans is unclear at this time. Consider, for example, that Bonnie Trigg (grandaughter of Sam) at one time lived with the adopted- or step-son (this is unclear) of Ernest Hemingway's third wife Martha Gellhorn. Hemingway was already dead when Bonnie Trigg was involved with this man.
